Robert of Chester

Robert of Chester, Latinized Robertus Castrensis, was an English Arabist and mathematician (Segovia ) was active in the 1140s in Spain and then returned to England.

He translated mathematical texts of the Arabs into Latin, including the algebra of al- Khwarizmi ( 1145 ) and various Euclid comments. He also created texts come to alchemy, one of which is a translation of a compendium of Byzantium.

Sometimes he was and is identified with Robert of Ketton ( Robertus Kettenensis ), another English translator from Arabic, but worked in the Kingdom of Navarre.
