Robert of Newminster

Robert of Newminster (also Robert of Newminster; * beginning of the 12th century in Gargrave, Yorkshire, England; † June 7, 1159 in Newminster ) was from 1138 the first abbot of Newminster Abbey.

Robert studied in Paris, was the first secular priest, then a Benedictine monk at Whitby. In 1132 he became a Cistercian monk at Fountains and from 1138 the first abbot of the Cistercian Abbey Newminster Abbey monk in the monastery of Newminster in Morpeth, England. The foundations of monasteries Pipewell Abbey, Sawley Abbey Roche Abbey and go back to northern England to him.

At the grave Roberts miracles are said to have occurred.
