Robert P. Hanrahan

Robert Paul Hanrahan ( born February 25, 1934 in Chicago Heights, Illinois; † 7 January, 2011 Vernon Hills, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1973 and 1975 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Robert Hanrahan attended the common schools and then from 1952 to 1954, the Thornton's Community College in Harvey. Subsequently, he studied until 1959 at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. In the following years he worked as a teacher and in administration. Between 1965 and 1967 he was auditor of the village Bloom. From 1967 to 1971 he served as a school board in Cook County. He then became the Regional Education Officer ( Midwest Regional Commissioner of Education ).

Politically, Hanrahan joined the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1972 he was in the third electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Morgan F. Murphy on January 3, 1973. Since he has not been confirmed in 1974, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1975. This was overshadowed by the Watergate affair.

Between 1975 and 1977, Hanrahan worked as a department head in the Department of Health. In addition to several other positions, he was from 1980 to 1982 District Council ( County Commissioner) in Lake County. Between 1984 and 1987 he was a director of the American Security Council Foundation. Robert Hanrahan was also active as a consultant. He died on January 7, 2011 in Vernon Hills.
