Robert P. Lamont

Robert Patterson Lamont Jr. ( born December 1, 1867 in Detroit, Michigan, † February 20, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois ) was an American politician and 1929-1932 the 5th Minister of Commerce of the United States.

Life

Robert Patterson Lamont came in 1867 as the son of Robert Lamont Sr. and his wife Isabella Lamont in Detroit to the world. On October 24, 1894 married Helen Gertrude Trotter Lamont, with whom he later had a son and two daughters. After Lamont had moved to his training and studies at the University of Michigan to Chicago to live there as a businessman, he served in World War I as an officer. After his return, he was Deputy Secretary of Commerce under President Warren G. Harding. When Herbert Hoover president of the United States was in 1929, he appointed the Minister of Commerce Lamont. He was a member of Hoover's Cabinet between March 5, 1929 and August 7, 1932, was replaced by Roy Dikeman Chapin. After his resignation as Minister of Commerce Lamont was president of the American Iron and Steel Institute.
