Robert Picard

Robert Rene Joseph Picard ( born May 25, 1957 in Montreal, Quebec ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who in his playing days and from 1973 to 1990 among others for the Washington Capitals, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Winnipeg Jets, Quebec Nordiques Detroit Red Wings played in the National Hockey League.

Career

Robert Picard began his career as a hockey player in his hometown, where he for Bleu -Blanc - Rouge de Montréal and its Nachfolgteam Junior de Montréal was active from 1973 to 1977 per two years in the Canadian Junior Football League QMJHL. He was then selected by the Washington Capitals in the NHL Amateur Draft 1977 in the first round as the third overall player. In the same year he was also selected in the WHA Amateur Draft by the Quebec Nordiques, but finally decided to go for the offer of the Washington Capitals. After the defense had three years for the team from the capital played in the National Hockey League, he was discharged to the 1980/81 season to the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, he left the Canadians already on March 10, 1981 back to aground for the Montreal Canadiens. In exchange for the links Sagittarius Michel Larocque moved to Toronto.

It was followed two years depending on the Montreal Canadiens and the Winnipeg Jets, before Picard was transferred to the Quebec Nordiques on November 27, 1985 in exchange for Mario Marois. These were also changed in the meantime, after the dissolution of the World Hockey Association in the NHL. His career ended the Canadians at the age of 33 years following the 1989/90 season, after he had been previously issued on 4 December 1989, together with Greg Adams in exchange for Tony McKegney to the Detroit Red Wings. On the occasion of the Heroes of Hockey Game, which took place as part of the NHL All- Star Games, in 2001 he packed once the skates.

Internationally

For Canada, Picard took part in the World Championships in 1978 and 1979.
