Robert Picht

Robert Picht ( born September 27, 1937 in Berlin, † September 24, 2008 in Hinterzarten ) was a German sociologist and linguist.

Life and work

As the son of Professor Georg Picht and his wife Edith Axenfeld he studied sociology and Romance studies at the universities of Munich, Frankfurt / Main, Hamburg, Paris, Madrid and Freiburg. In 1964 he obtained the degree of Master of Arts in the subject of French literature in Hamburg. At the Sorbonne in 1972, he passed the examination for the promotion of a Dr. phil. At the University of Hagen, he was appointed in 1990 as professor of sociology.

From 1965 to 1972 he was a member of the German Academic Exchange Service ( DAAD) in Paris the office. During this time he was also a lecturer in German language and politics at the Institut d' Etudes Politiques and the Ecole Nationale d'Administration in Paris.

From 1972 until 2002 he took over the post of Director at the German -Prussian Institute in Ludwigsburg. At the College of Europe in Natolin, Warsaw, he was vice chairman of 2004 to 2007. Moreover, he assumed the position of Vice-President and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the European Cultural Foundation in Amsterdam 1976-1995 true.
