Robert R. Benton

Robert R. Benton, Robert Benton and Bob Benton ( born April 10, 1924 in Los Angeles, † December 7, 2003 in Santa Barbara ( California), United States) was an American art director and set designer.

Life

Benton began his career in the 50s as a prop. In 1956 he received his first assignment as a film set ( set decorator ). The following four decades, he endowed a plethora of films and worked for major Hollywood production companies like MGM, Warner Bros. and especially Paramount Pictures. Since the late 80s, Benton went a little shorter, before 1995 his career quite ended. Benton also has several popular television series equipped, including The Man from UNCLE and Bonanza. With the latter Western classics his longtime collaboration began with the film architect Hal Pereira.

In order to meet not with the well-known writers ( Bonnie and Clyde ) and director confused ( Kramer vs. Kramer ) Robert Benton, he called himself only since the late 60s regularly Robert R. Benton, previously often only Robert Benton. For four of his work he received in the 60's in quick succession each an Academy Award nomination: Hud, only for officers, voice on the phone ... and because no one is without fault. Only twice towards the end of his career Robert Benton also worked as art director: In Hot Shops ( 1986) and Conagher (1991).
