Robert R. Butler

Robert Reyburn Butler ( * September 24 1881 in Butler, Johnson County, Tennessee; † January 7, 1933 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician.

Butler attended the law school of Cumberland University in Lebanon. 1903, after completing his studies, he was admitted to the legal profession and practicing in Mountain City, Tennessee. In 1906 he moved to Oregon and settled in Condon. There, Butler began to practice. Later, he became mayor of the city. From February 1909 to January 1911 he was a judge on the 11th District Court of Oregon. Butler moved now to The Dalles, where he began to practice again. From 1913 to 1917 and again from 1925 to 1929 he was a senator in the Senate of Oregon.

On November 6, 1928 Butler was elected as a Republican to Congress to occupy there in the U.S. House of Representatives for the vacant seat of Nicholas J. Sinnott new. This was previously withdrawn. Butler remained until his death, a deputy in the House of Representatives. He died in January 1933 in Washington, and was buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in The Dalles.

Robert Reyburn Butler was a grandson of Roderick R. Butler, who sat for Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives.
