Robert R. Williams

Robert R. Williams (* February 16, 1886; † October 2, 1965 ) was an American chemist. In 1907 he completed his chemistry studies at the University of Chicago.

Then he searched for an American telephone company. In his spare time, he conducted research on vitamins. In 1933 he was able to isolate the first thiamine (vitamin B1 ), two years later, in 1935, he could produce the vitamin synthetically. In 1947 he was awarded the Perkin Medal.
