Robert Schlagintweit

Robert Schlagintweit, 1859 by Schlagintweit ( born October 27, 1833 in Munich, † June 6, 1885 in Gießen ) was a German traveler and explorer.

Family

Schlagintweit was the son of the Imperial Council and the Real ophthalmologist Dr. med. et chir. Joseph Schlagintweit ( 1791-1854 ).

He was with his brother Hermann on August 28, 1859 ( Berchtesgaden ) charged with diploma dated 24 November 1859 ( Munich ) in the Bavarian hereditary nobility and enrolled on December 12, 1859 in the Kingdom of Bavaria to the noble class.

Life

Robert was the younger brother of Hermann and Adolf Schlagintweit and took with them after high school in 1852 at Wilhelmsgymnasium Munich and the subsequent degree at the University of Munich 's famous trip to India, which led to many important findings on the high mountains of the Himalayas.

Robert initially participated in the geological and meteorological study of the Alps; he contributed to in a work for the New investigations about the physical geography and geology of the Alps ( Leipzig 1854).

After Hermann and Adolf had received the opportunity for a scientific journey to India from Schlagintweit the mediation of Alexander von Humboldt, also Robert took part in this expedition.
