Robert Shavlakadze

Robert Mikhailovich Schawlakadse ( რობერტ შავლაყაძე; Russian: Роберт Михайлович Шавлакадзе, born April 1, 1933, Tbilisi ) is a former Georgian athlete who competed for the USSR. At a height of 1.86 m his competition weight was 80 kg.

At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960, he became Olympic champion in high jump. His victories height was 2.16 m. He won gold because he had mastered this level in the first round, while his teammate Valeri Brumel the 2.16 m crossed only at the second attempt. At the European Championships in 1962 Schawlakadse won with 2.09 m bronze. At the Olympic Summer Games in 1964 Schawlakadse was 2.14 m Olympic fifth. His personal best of 2.17 meters, he also introduced in 1964.
