Robert Smith (musician)

Robert James Smith (born 21 April 1959, Blackpool, England ) is a British singer and guitarist and founder of the rock band The Cure.

In addition, Robert Smith has been involved in various other musical projects, among others, Siouxsie and the Banshees ( 1979-1980 and 1982-1984 ), The Glove and COGASM.

Personal Development

Robert Smith was born as the third of four children. He has one brother and two sisters. His sister was married to Porl Thompson, one of the guitarist of The Cure. Smith was raised Catholic and went to Notre Dame High School and St. Wilfrid's Comprehensive School in Crawley. He received good grades in school, but when he started at the age of eleven, playing guitar, it soon became clear that he had found his passion in music. Smith married his childhood sweetheart Mary 1988. The two have already decided early on not to have children.

Identification

Robert Smith wears on stage is often a smudged red lipstick. The original plan was normal to wear the lipstick. However, after due to closed eyes and close to the microphone smeared during his performances of lipstick, Smith decided to bring this to the identification.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he was a guitarist with Siouxsie and the Banshees and brought in 1983 with the Banshees co-founder Steve Severin under the band name The Glove album Blue Sunshine out. He participated in the 1980 released album The Affectionate Punch the Associates in background vocals. The Cure song Cut Here (2001 ) deals with the suicide of Associates singer Billy Mackenzie in 1997.

Smith cooperated in 2004 with Blink-182 on their single All of This and sang with Billy Corgan a cover version of the Bee Gees To Love Somebody hits on Corgan's debut album The Future Embrace ( 2005). In an MTV Unplugged show The Cure played together with grain a mixed version of the song Korn Make Me Bad and Cures Inbetween Days.

Contrary to his intention to never wanting to get into the mainstream end of the 1980s, which might be however already been done at the latest after the album Japanese Whispers, Smith also trips to the dance music in the new millennium to be disclosed. So he sang 2004 Junior Jack Da Hype club hit and Junkie XL's Perfect Sky (also known as co-author ). By Blank & Jones he also took on a cover version of the Cure classic A Forest. On the Faithless album To All New Arrivals appeared with the song Spiders, Crocodiles & Kryptonite A remix of the Cure - Lullaby hits. Smith is also responsible for the vocals on Paul Hart Noll's song Please by whose 2007 album The Ideal Condition erschienenem.

Robert Smith is married since 1988 with Mary Poole, to whom he dedicated the song Love song on the album Disintegration.

In an episode of the American television series South Park Smith could be heard as a guest speaker.

Robert Smith is the subject of the song " Robert Smith in my pub" by Tommy Finke.

In the title role of the film " Cheyenne - This Must Be the Place" Sean Penn plays a rock star, reminiscent of Robert Smith.
