Robert Taylor (sprinter born 1948)

Robert Taylor ( Robert James Taylor, born September 14, 1948 in Tyler, Texas, † November 13, 2007 in Houston ) was an American sprinter and Olympic gold medalist in the 4 x 100 - meter relay.

At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, he won a silver medal in the 100 - meter dash, behind Valeri Borzov from the Soviet Union and before the Jamaican Lennox Miller, and, along with Larry Black, Gerald Tinker and Eddie Hart, gold in the 4-by- 100 - meter relay for the teams from the Soviet Union and the Federal Republic of Germany.

Taylor won the national AAU championships over 100m in 1972 and 400m in 1977. At the Pan American Games in 1975, he won the team gold medal in the 4 x 400 - meter relay.

On November 13, 2007, he died after he was admitted to the hospital because of cardiac arrhythmias.
