Robert W. Laing

Robert W. Laing is a British art director and production designer, who also won an Excellence in Production Design Award from the Art Directors Guild alongside an Oscar for Best Production Design.

Life

Laing began his career as an art director and production designer in the film industry in 1960 with the film A mink on the hook ( Make Mine Mink ) and worked until 2000 at the scenic features of thirty films and television series with.

In 1973 he was nominated, along with John Box and Gil Parrondo for the Academy Award for Best Production Design, and indeed for the comedy film Travels with My Aunt ( 1972) by George Cukor starring Maggie Smith, Alec McCowen and Louis Gossett Jr..

At the Academy Awards in 1983 he won the Oscar along with Stuart Craig and Michael Seirton for Gandhi ( 1982) by Richard Attenborough with Ben Kingsley, Candice Bergen and Edward Fox.

In 1988 he was nominated together with Francesco Chianese, George Richardson and Hugh Scaife for an Emmy for outstanding Artdesign in the first episode of the National Broadcasting Company ( NBC) produced TV series Noble House (1988 ) with Pierce Brosnan, Deborah Raffin and Ben Masters.

Together with Martin Laing, Charles Dwight Lee, Neil Lamont, Bill Rea, Steven Lawrence and Héctor Romero 1997, he received the Excellence in Production Design Award from the Art Directors Guild ( ADG) for Titanic ( 1997) by James Cameron starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet and Frances Fisher in the lead roles.
