Robert Waseige

Robert Waseige ( born August 26, 1939 in Rocourt ) is a Belgian football manager and former professional footballer. He was coach of the Belgian national team during the European Football Championship in 2000 and led Belgium to the second round at the World Cup in 2002 where he was awarded the Fair Play Award of UEFA.

Life and work

Robert Waseige began his playing career for RFC Liège, where he has four years over 100 games completed. In 1962 he moved to Racing White Brussels for eight seasons. In 1971, he became coach at KFC Winterslag and then at Standard Liege, where he was very successful.

Waseige was before the Euro 2000 coach of the Belgian national team. In this tournament, retired Belgium, together with the Netherlands hosts, in the first round of. In 2002, he led the Belgian selection into the second round at the World Cup in Japan and South Korea.

He later became coach in Algeria. He worked for some time as a consultant to Be TV, a private Belgian TV channels.
