Robert White (ambassador)

Robert White ( born September 21, 1926 in Melrose, Middlesex County, Massachusetts) is an American diplomat. He was ambassador under various U.S. administrations since 2008 and is Chairman of the Center for International Policy.

Life

From 1977 to 1980, White Ambassador to Paraguay. After that he worked from 1980 to 1981 he was ambassador to El Salvador. He was regarded as a critic of the then policy of the U.S. government towards El Salvador, which was characterized mainly by supporting right-wing circles and the military. 1981 White was retired and a member of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

According to a telegram from 1978, which was known by a FOIA request of the New York Times, Robert White had learned in a conversation with General Alejandro Fretes Davalos, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Paraguay, that participating in Operation Condor South American countries a U.S. communication system used in the Canal Zone of Panama. In addition, all Latin American armed forces have participated in the covert operation.
