Roberta Williams

Roberta Heuer Williams ( born February 16, 1953) is considered one of the finest and most respected computer games developers, and possibly most influential games maker of her time.

Life and work

In the 1980s and 1990s were Roberta and her husband Ken Williams of the best known developers in the field of graphic adventures. Together, they founded On- Line Systems, which later became known under the name of Sierra On-Line. Together they developed in 1980 also the first graphic adventure Mystery House. To Roberta Williams' most famous titles include Time Zone, the King's Quest series, and The Dagger of Amon Ra, ( with support) but it has a lot more. Though Sierra was sold in 1996 and her husband left the company in 1997, Williams remained there until 1999 as a staff member working. Their activities included the game design, game production and sound design.

Roberta and Ken married at the age of 19 years. They have two children. Their contribution to the computer games industry was partly in the book Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution recorded. The last known status of the Williams family has been documented in the form of an interview by an Asian gaming magazine, which states that they have built a house in Mexico and plan to live there for a while. In the interview, Williams pointed out that she wanted to return to the video game industry, as they have developed a concept of how the genre adventure game with massive multiplayer online gaming could combine.

1996 listed the U.S. online games Gamespot Williams at number 10 of the 15 most influential game developers. In 2002, she was counted by the U.S. online gaming magazine GameSpy the 30 most important game developers of all time. 2009 were counted together of all time to the 100 most important game developers Roberta and Ken Williams of the U.S. online games IGN.
