Roberto Carretero

Roberto Carretero Díaz ( born August 30, 1975 in Madrid ) is a former Spanish tennis player.

As the only tournament of his career, he won the German Open in Hamburg in 1996. The victory of the hitherto inconspicuous Carretero, who defeated the tournament, among others, in the semifinal and Yevgeny Kafelnikov in the final Àlex Corretja, was the first victory of qualifiers at the Masters tournament in Hamburg. After this surprising success, however it was quiet around Carretero, he could not win another title in the ATP tour and fell from his world ranking top position 58, which he reached after his victory in Hamburg, further and further behind. In the Challenger Series in 1999 he was able to celebrate winning the tournament in Sopot.

Carretero resigned after the 2001 season from active tennis.
