Roberto Cecon

Roberto Cecon ( born December 28, 1971 in Gemona ) is a former Italian ski jumper and is currently coach of the Italian Skispungteams. He was able to celebrate a total of six World Cup victories in his career. With nine national titles between 1988 and 2001, he is the most successful jumpers in the Italian championships.

Career

Cecon began six years ago with the ski jumping. His debut in the World Cup he gave in 1987 at the age of sixteen. He started for the sports group of the Financial Guard ( Gruppo sportivo Fiamme Gialle ). Cecon jumped at the start of his career still in the classical parallel style, but then it turned to be one of the first ski jumper to the new V- style around - with success. At the end of the 1989/90 season he won his first two ski jumping World Cup victories, including the local audience in Predazzo.

In 1992 and 1994 he won at the Ski Flying World Championships bronze medals. In 1994 he reached four other podium finishes in the World Cup, including a victory; in the overall World Cup standings, he finished fifth. His best year as a ski jumper experienced Cecon in the following season 1994/95: He achieved seven podium finishes, including three victories. In the World Cup final bill so he was second behind Andreas Goldberger.

In the following years he was no longer able to continue our success. Only in the last years of his ski jumping career, he recorded some notable successes: In the summer of 2001, he won a competition of the Summer Grand Prix and at the 2002 Ski Flying World Championships he finished sixth. His last World Cup competition played Cecon on 23 March 2003 in Planica.

Since jumping in Italy is considered a fringe sport, Cecon was for many years at many events the only representative of his country. Only his compatriot Ivan Lunardi was it a serious competitor. At the World Championships and Olympic Games therefore rarely an Italian team came about. For the Nordic World Ski Championships 2003 in Val di Fiemme domestic set Italy on a team with Cecon which, however, only reached the tenth place.

Roberto Cecon is married and now lives in Tricesimo. He works as a financial officer and ski coach. His son Zeno (* 1990) is one of the young talents of the Italian ski jumping.
