Roberto Clemente

Roberto Clemente ( with a Spanish name Roberto Clemente Walker, born August 18, 1934 in Carolina, Puerto Rico, † 31 December 1972 in San Juan, Puerto Rico after a plane crash ) was a professional baseball player from Puerto Rico.

Biography

Clemente played from 1955 to 1972 in Major League Baseball as a right fielder. The complete 18 years of his career, Clemente spent at the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Clemente supported in backlash-free periods charities that helped in Puerto Rico and other Latin American countries. He died on 31 December 1972 in a plane crash when he tried to deliver relief supplies to the needy after an earthquake in Nicaragua ..

Clemente was posthumously received the first Latin American in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. After Lou Gehrig, he was the second player in the Hall of Fame, for which the otherwise obligatory waiting period was canceled five years.

Clemente was the first Latin American player to win a game of the World Series as a starting player (1960 ), an MVP Award (1966 ) received and was awarded the World Series MVP Award ( 1971), respectively.
