Roberto de Mattei

Roberto de Mattei ( born February 21, 1948 in Rome ) is an Italian professor of history and writer.

Life

After graduating in History at the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Rome La Sapienza, he worked as an assistant to Augusto del Noce and later at the side of the historian Armando Saitta. In 1986 he became professor of contemporary history at the University of Cassino. Today he teaches church history at the Università Europea di Roma.

From 2002 to 2006 he was a consultant to the Italian government in international affairs. Since 2004, de Mattei Vice President of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (German National Research Council, the rank after the German Max Planck Society comparable). De Mattei is director of the three-month journal of Contemporary History Nova Historica, the monthly magazine Radici Cristiane and the intelligence service Corrispondenza Romana.

In 2011, de Mattei described the earthquake in Japan, followed by a devastating tsunami, as "evidence for the existence of God " and as " just punishment ". At another time, he publicly stated that the fall of the Roman Empire was a consequence of homosexuality, prostitution, etc.

2011 was de Mattei the famous Italian historian price "Premio Acqui Storia " for his book " The Second Vatican Council - a hitherto unwritten history" ( original title: " Concilio Vaticano II Una storia mai scritta ").
