Roberto Mancini ( born November 27, 1964 in Jesi ) is an Italian former football player and current coach. From December 2009 to May 2013, he was with Manchester City. Since September 2013 he is at Galatasaray under contract.

Playing career

In the club

The striker Roberto Mancini started his professional career in 1981 with FC Bologna, for which he is in his first season, 30 games in Serie A denied and scored nine goals. Between 1982 and 1997 he played for Sampdoria, where he was instrumental helped with his congenial partner Gianluca Vialli storm that this year the most successful club history were. Mancini played 424 league games for Genoa, scoring 132 goals. Four times he won the Italian Cup with Sampdoria and 1991 he led the club to its only previous Italian championship. After 15 years in Genoa Mancini joined in 1997 for three years at Lazio and played there 87 league games and scored 15 goals. With Rome in 2000 he was Italian champion twice (1998 and 2000) and won the 1999 Cup Winners 'Cup again the European Cup Winners' Cup and the European Super Cup.

In the summer of 2000, he became assistant coach Sven -Goran Eriksson at Lazio and joined in January 2001, again as a player for English club Leicester City, where he remained only a month.

In the National Team

In the Italian national team Mancini could never take off properly. Between 1984 and 1994 he played 36 times the national team, scoring four goals and took part in the European Football Championship 1988 in Germany, as well as the Football World Cup 1990 in Italy. After a dispute with coach Arrigo Sacchi in the run-up to the 1994 World Cup, he finished his international career.

Coaching career

Immediately after the end of his playing career, Mancini took over in February 2001 as head coach of the Italian first division club Fiorentina, which he led to win the Italian Cup in the same year. After his resignation at Fiorentina in January 2002 he was 2002 Coach of Lazio Rome, where he stayed for two years and crowned his work with the Cup victory in 2004 in July. In addition, he failed to qualify the team for the Champions League, but the blow came in the preliminary round.

From 2004 to 2008, Mancini coach of Inter Milan and won in his first season, the Italian Cup and the Italian Super Cup. 2005/ 06 Inter Milan was later awarded the Champion title, as Juventus and AC Milan received point deductions due to the manipulation scandal. Thus, the double was perfect, because winning the cup could be repeated. 2006/ 07 Inter Milan won the Italian championship again. On 29 May 2008 Mancini was fired in spite of recently gained third league title in a row after growing differences with players and coaches.

On 19 December 2009 he took over as coach at Manchester City in the English Premier League as the successor to the sacked Mark Hughes. In 2011 he won the English Cup with his team. In the following season he fixed with Manchester City on the final day, the English Championship, as his team in stoppage time succeeded the historically remarkable feat to achieve two still necessary at this time for the title gates.

After a disappointing 2012/13 season in which Manchester City the champion could not defend, has been in the Champions League group last and also the FA Cup final lost against Wigan Athletic, Mancini was released on 13 May 2013 the club's management.

On September 30, 2013 Mancini signed with the Turkish giants Galatasaray a three-year contract.
