Roberto Mieres

Roberto Mieres ( born December 3, 1924 in Mar del Plata, Argentina, † January 26, 2012 in Punta del Este, Uruguay ) was an Argentine racing driver and sailor.

Life

The son of a very wealthy family in Argentina was an unusually versatile athlete who excelled alongside the motorsport both in tennis, rugby, rowing, as well as in sailing. His motorsport merits he fought his way from 1947 in endurance racing his home behind the wheel of various pre-war cars, such as the 2.3 - liter supercharged Alfa Romeo or the Mercedes SSK.

Invited by Juan Manuel Fangio and José González Froilán to a " short trip " to Europe, he went in 1950 at the Grand Prix in Geneva, which did not count for the World Cup, to fourth place.

When Jean Behra was prevented due to an injury in 1953, the Gordini team invited him to start on one of their single-seaters. After he had at the World Cup also not counting the Grand Prix of Albi again achieved a fourth place, encouraged him this, to appoint a private Maserati 250F for the 1954 Formula 1 season.
