Roberto Monzón
Roberto González Monzón (born 30 March 1978 in Havana ) is a former Cuban wrestler. He won a silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at featherweight at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
Career
Roberto Monzon began as a teenager in 1988 in Havana with the rings. He concentrated on the Greco-Roman style. He trained mainly in the power center of the Cuban wrestler Association in Havana. His coach was Pedro Val The studied physical education teachers wrestled with a size of 1.65 meters, first bantamweight and changed the course of his career in the featherweight.
His first start in an international championship, he completed at the Junior World Championships (Age Group Cadets ) in 1993 in Lünen / Germany. In Athens, he came here in the bantamweight to a victory over Rifat Yildiz from Germany, but lost already in his next fight against Koba Guliaschwili from Georgia, so he resigned and einkam only on the 27th place.
In the Pan-American Championship 2000 in Cali / Colombia, he finished behind Dennis Hall again the 2nd place. In 2004, he won again at the Pan American Championships in Guatemala City, where he first took up in the lightweight, before the Americans Ron Muir and Carlos Ramos from Venezuela. In the 2004 Olympics, he started again at featherweight and reached there with wins over Ali Ashkani Abgoloag, Christos Gikos, Greece, Seref Tüfenk, Turkey and Alexei Shevtsov, Russia, the final of the Olympic victory, in which he, however, the South Korean Jung Ji -hyun after a hard fight on points ( 0-3 points) was defeated. He thus won the Olympic silver medal.
After these Olympics, Roberto Monzon was still up to the next Olympics in 2008 in Beijing active. He won it four times in the panamrikanischen championships or games, but could not place at the World Championships in front of the field.
