Roberto Poggiali

Roberto Poggiali ( born April 16, 1941 in Florence ) is an Italian former racing cyclist.

In 1962, Roberto Poggiali Italian Champion in the road race of amateurs. The following year, he stepped over to the professionals. His greatest achievements were victories in the Tour de Suisse in 1970 with a lead of 1:03 minutes on Louis Pfenninger and in the Flèche Wallonne (1965). In the " Flèche " he suggested Felice Gimondi, Tom Simpson and Eddy Merckx, who made his professional debut in this race. Even smaller races like the Coppa Sabatini (1971 ), the Giro del Lazio ( 1974), the Giro del Friuli (1975) and the Giro dell 'Umbria (1976 ) he was able to decide for themselves.

Between 1963 and 1978, 15 times Poggiali took part in the Giro d' Italia. His best finish was eighth place in 1965. Thrice he started with no outstanding success in the Tour de France, and one each at the Vuelta a España ( 1968) and the Tour of Belgium.

Roberto Poggialis best friend was the Danish racing driver Ole Ritter, whom he is said to have even times " represented " as a favor at the Critérium van CLEGUEREC in Morbihan under whose name, as Ritter felt too exhausted to this day.
