Robertsfors Municipality

Robertsfors is a municipality (Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Västerbotten County and the historic province of Västerbotten. The main town of the municipality is Robertsfors. Through the village leads the European route E4.

Geography

The municipality extends 60 kilometers along the Baltic coast and ranges up to 40 miles inland. The following places ( tätorter ) belong to the community: Ånäset, Bygdeå and Robertsfors.

Economy

The community is a traditional agricultural community with many small businesses. Industrial sites are Robertsfors and Ånäset.

Attractions

In Robertsfors is located on the site of an abandoned steel mill in 1890 an industrial museum. In Bygdeå, 17 kilometers south of Robertsfors, is an old church from the 15th century, which originally was located near a bay, but due to the Scandinavian land uplift now lies a few kilometers inland. In the church there is an old assembly and courthouse.

In Ånäset is the Nysätra Church, which dates from the early 18th century. It has a free-standing bell tower and is built in cruise ship style. In Galgbacken there is an open air museum with machines and tools that were once used in agriculture. Also in Ånäset, near the European route 4, standing in a meadow, the two largest cheese slicer in the world.

In Ratan took place in 1808-09 during the war with Russia a great battle instead. The fortifications can be visited. The Flottarstigen, the Flößerweg, runs from Rickleån about Robertfors after Laxbacken. This trail is about 20 km long.
