Robertson County (Kentucky)

Robertson County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Mount Olivet. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern Kentucky, is in the north just 35 km from the state of Ohio and has an area of 259 square kilometers without significant water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Bracken County, Mason County, Fleming County, Nicholas County and Harrison County.

History

Robertson County was formed on February 11, 1867 from parts of Bracken County, Harrison County, Mason County and Nicholas County. It was named after George Robertson, a judge and member of the U.S. Congress.

According to the census of 2000, there were 2,266 people in Robertson County. Of these, 70 people were living in collective centers, the other inhabitants lived in 866 households and 621 families. The population density was 9 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.6 percent white and 0.3 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.1 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.9 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 866 households out of which 31.1 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.6 percent were married couples living together, 9.1 percent were single mothers, 28.2 percent were non-families, 24.7 percent of all households and 11.1 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.00.

Based on the county the population was spread from 23.8 percent population under 18 years, 6.7 percent between 18 and 24 years, 27.1 percent between 25 and 44 years, 25.5 percent between 45 and 64 years and 16.9 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females aged 18 years old or over, there were 92.5 men statistically.

The median income for a household was $ 30,581, and the median income for a family was $ 35,521. Males had a median income of $ 27,656, women $ 20,476. The per capita income was $ 13,404. 17.5 percent of families and 22.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 30.3 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 24.1 percent of those 65 years.
