Robin Beck

Robin Beck ( born November 7, 1954 in Brooklyn, New York City ) is an American singer-songwriter, whose music can be attributed almost exclusively to the AOR -rock area. She is with James Christian, the lead singer of the band House of Lords, married.

Career

Born in Brooklyn, Robin Beck moved at a young age to Daytona Beach, Florida, where she was discovered by a local musician named Alex London. This she conveyed to the Johnny Conklin also locally known. During this time, the singer also tried in various bands in the area and trained her voice to the standards of the Great American Songbook. Her first recording contract she received after a gig in a Detroit club - the unsuccessful Single Still In Love joined shortly thereafter. In 1979, she released her first album Sweet Talk with Mercury Records - now a collector's rarity. Having a then-popular disco style work included the title song of a first decent result for Robin Beck. As a background singer among others, the later Stars Luther Vandross and Irene Cara were committed.

Then Robin Beck was very popular especially as a background singer. Among other things, she appeared in productions of Humble Pie ( Go for the Throat, 1981), Melissa Manchester (Hey Ricky, 1982; Emergency, 1983), and Leo Sayer ( World Radio, 1982) with. Also David Bowie and Chaka Khan booked the singer. In an interview, however, Robin Beck pointed out in particular her work with Patti Austin, who booked her as a background singer for the album Love Is Gonna Getcha 1990.

Breakthrough and greatest success

1988 Robin Beck finally got the offer, the song First Time for a Coca -Cola commercial singing. The popularity of the song was so great that at the end of the same year it was decided to publish First Time as a single. The song was highly successful in Europe: First Time climbed in the UK, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands to No. 1 on the singles charts. Robin Beck then took a second album called Trouble or Nothin ', which was released in 1989 worldwide. With Save Up All Your Tears and Tears in the Rain ( 1989) the work contained two singles that reached up above all in Germany, Austria and Switzerland sold well and the charts. To Save Up All Your Tears was a top 10 success both in Germany and in Switzerland. In contrast, these recordings flopped in both the U.S. and in the UK. While she always remained unknown in America, they could achieve at least the status of a one- hit wonders in the UK.

What is remarkable about the album Trouble or Nothin ' is the fact that many of the songs contained were recorded by other singers: 1989 Robin Beck sang in the background on the album Heart of Stone by Cher. Then took this Save Up All Your Tears on for her album Love Hurts (1991). As a single it was able to land a middle chart success worldwide. The original is however for Bonnie Tyler, who had recorded the song in 1988 for her album Hide Your Heart. There can be found with the title song, another song that was recorded for Robin Beck's Trouble or Nothin '. A small hit, however, had only the hard rock group Kiss therefore, their singer Paul Stanley had written the title with Desmond Child and Holly Knight. Also Tears in the Rain should be a hit a few years later, at least in Germany and Switzerland - this time in the version of Jennifer Rush. More songs such as If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man) ( Original: Bonnie Tyler, 1986) and Do not Lose Any Sleep ( other versions: John Waite, Starship ) were also known by other artists. Main reasons for these numerous recordings should probably both very successful songwriter Desmond Child and Diane Warren be, but also the other named artist Robin Beck regularly supplied with songs. Desmond Child also served as a producer of Trouble or Nothin '.

Other career and comeback

Robin Beck could never really build on the success of First Time. Several years passed before she released a third album with Human Instinct ( 1992). Coupled From this they could reach a place 55 in the German single charts with In My Heart to Stay again. In addition, the album was not a success. Two years later, for the Warner CD Can not Get Off. Then Close to You is included, a song that has been heard before in a German version in a commercial for McDonald's. While the English version has a classic love text, one on the food at McDonald's tuned version was developed for advertising ( "Good quality hotel, at McDonald's it's just fine ..."). Close to You reached a modest number 79 in the German charts as far last single.

Then it was quiet around Robin Beck. Her musical career got sidelined under general perception, even though they published every now and then singles. In 1997, she was the mother of a daughter named Olivia. The child's father and husband of Robin Beck is the well-known American hard rock singer James Christian. 1999 Singles Jewel appeared in My Crown and Shut Up and Kiss Me, both of which flopped. They also took on duets with Stan Bush, Pupo and Dan Lucas.

In 2004, she published a new album - Wonderland, a commercial flop. Back in 2005, Do You Miss Me followed on the small independent label Frontiers. So it was, at least in Europe back on the music market presence, but without leaving large commercial tracks. The rock mainstream work completed musically Trouble or Nothin ' on. Also, Desmond Child and Dianne Warren were again represented with songs. On 6 July 2007 the album Livin 'on a Dream, the musical also offers melodic- rock fare followed.

However, it was just their biggest hit First Time, which enabled her twice a modest comeback, at least in some parts of Europe: In 2003, the Dance Project Unique new version of First Time, which reached the charts for example in Switzerland ( number 61 ). Followed in 2006, the project Sunblock for Robin Beck new vocals for their greatest success again. The success was significantly greater from, because this time the single reached, among others, the top 10 in the UK and Finland.

Included are the newly produced and re-recorded original songs on the album ( new vocals, new music ) and four new compositions.
