Robin Eames

Robin Eames, actually Robert Henry Alexander Eames, Baron Eames of Armagh, OM (* April 27, 1937 in Larne, Northern Ireland ) was 1986-2006 Primate of the Church of Ireland.

Robin Eames was born the son of a Methodist pastor. He attended Methodist College Belfast and studied at Queen's University Belfast and the Anglican Trinity College in Dublin. In 1964 he was ordained a priest and was pastor at several parishes in Belfast.

In 1975 he was ordained at age 38 as bishop of the Diocese of Derry and Raphoe, which lies both in Ireland and in Northern Ireland. In a groundbreaking gesture he invited the Catholic Bishop Edward Daly for an episcopal consecration.

In 1980 he became Bishop of Down and Dromore and 1986 he was the 103rd Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland.

In 1995, he was raised on the recommendation of John Major in the peerage.
