Robin Fraser

Robin Fraser ( born December 17, 1966 in Kingston, Jamaica ) is a former American football player and current coach.

The Jamaican-born defender played six years in the American Professional Soccer League and ten in Major League Soccer. Overall, Fraser was active in 27 international matches for the national football team of the United States.

Fraser was an athletic, technically fogged defender with great vision, who also played as a sweeper.

Playing career

Youth

The Jamaican-born Fraser grew up in Miami, Florida and attended Miami Palmetto High School in Pinecrest, a suburb of the city. After graduating from high school, he moved in 1984 to the Florida International University. With the FIU Golden Panthers college team, he was the NCAA Men 's Division II Soccer Championship win in the first year.

Professional career

After graduating from college, he signed a contract with the Miami Sharks, who played in the then American Soccer League. In 1990 he moved to the Colorado Foxes, who played in the American Professional Soccer League.

With the formation of Major League Soccer in 1996 Fraser signed a contract with the MLS. In MLS Inaugural Player Draft 1996, he was selected by the Los Angeles Galaxy as the first player. Total played five years for the Californians, was elected to this four times in the best eleven of the Year and won the MLS Defender of the Year Award as the best defensive player in the league in 1999.

Before the start of the 2001 season, Fraser moved to a transfer fee to the Colorado Rapids. After 74 league games, he moved again, and indeed to the Columbus Crew. There he was awarded in 2004 for the second time with the MLS Defender of the Year Award.

After the 2005 season, he explained his career end.

National

Between 1988 and 2001 he played 27 times in the senior national team of the United States. In 1999 he was in the 3-0 U.S. victory against Germany in the starting eleven. However, he was nominated for a World Cup squad no.

Coach

From 2007 to 2010 he was an assistant coach at Real Salt Lake in the MLS. In 2011 he took over the post of head coach for the first time and has since been responsible for CD Chivas USA.
