Robin M. Canup
Robin M. Canup ( born November 20, 1968) is an American astrophysicist.
Life
Canup studied at Duke University in North Carolina Physics and a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado at Boulder. In 1998 she moved to the Southwest Research Institute Department of Space Studies ( SwRI ) in Boulder and was appointed as Deputy Director in 1999. She had to April 2005 held a visiting professorship at the California Institute of Technology in January and has since been a director at SwRI.
Work
Canup deals with the formation of planets and their satellites. They made major contributions to the origin of the Earth- Moon system, which significantly contributed to the current understanding of the collision theory.
2005 their achievements were recognized with the naming ( 17836 ) Canup for the asteroid 1998 HT50.
