Robocopy

Robocopy is a command line tool from Microsoft for copying and synchronizing directories. With its 72 switches there is a diverse adaptable tool that allows an incremental backing up directories. It makes sense it is used in a batch file.

In contrast for easy copying via the GUI of Windows Robocopy does not abort on errors and can offer proof of copying in a log file. It is far more flexible than the older Windows / DOS versions delivered copy or xcopy. While it had to be installed before using the " Windows Resource Kit", it is in the Windows versions from Vista - in Windows servers from version 2008 - included by default and can be directly from the command line out or be used in PowerShell.
