Robustness principle

The robustness principle ( Postel's Law, Engl. Postel 's Law ) is a concept from the development of Internet standards. It is often attributed by the Internet pioneer Jonathan Postel, which it in paragraph 2.10. RFC 761 ( relates to the Transmission Control Protocol) in the following manner summarized:

"Be conservative in what you do, be liberal in what you accept from others "

" Be strict in what you're doing and open with what you accept from others "

Following this recommendation implementations of Internet standards to keep yourself as close as possible to existing recommendations and standards, without expecting this procedure by other participants. Contrary to a common misconception, is not to mean that input should not be checked for defects, but only that they should not be rejected because of their defectiveness as possible.
