Rocca Calascio

The Rocca Calascio rises inside the Abruzzo and the 1,460 m with highest, about 1000 years old castle in the Apennines.

Later, the plant was expanded to a small but strong fortress, which has been, however, never besieged. Already in the 10th century watch tower to have been built here.

In the years 1461 and 1703, the plant was badly damaged in very severe earthquakes. While the place Calascio which lies below the fortress, was rebuilt, this did not happen at the fort. Rocca Calascio was the filming location for the final scene of the movie Ladyhawke by Richard Donner.
