Rochester Institute of Technology

The Rochester Institute of Technology is a private training institute with a focus on career preparation which was founded in 1829 as the " Rochester Athenaeum ". The campus is the Henrietta Town, just south of Rochester in upstate New York.

The Institute is primarily a teaching facility and operates only rather little research. It is mainly known for its engineering and photography degree programs. The RIT, where in 2005 over 15,000 students were enrolled, is divided into eight colleges, plus it maintains a school in Prague, one in Kosovo and one in Dubrovnik.

The campus consists of 5 km ². The facility is surrounded by forest land and waters that make up a very diverse wetland. The campus itself consists of 237 buildings, which were designed in part by renowned architects such as Kevin Roche, with 474,000 m².
