Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra

The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO ) is an American orchestra in the city of Rochester in upstate New York. Its main venue is the Eastman Theatre at the Eastman School of Music. It was founded in 1922 by industrialist and music lover George Eastman. It is currently headed by Christopher Seaman and accounts for about 150 concerts a year. At Seamans predecessors include Eugène Aynsley Goossens, José Iturbi, Erich Leinsdorf, David Zinman and Mark Elder. Since September 2010, the Norwegian conductor Arild Remme riding is the 11th music director of the orchestra.

In 1929 began the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra with the nationwide broadcasting of radio concerts and was thus one of the pioneers of this task. Throughout its history, the RPO has received several awards, especially in the heyday of the city until the mid -1960s.
