Rochester Rhinos

The Rochester Rhinos are an American football team from Rochester, New York. The club was founded in 1996 plays in the National Division of the USL Professional Division, the third highest league in the United States.

By 2009, the team in the USL A- League and played in the USL First Division. One of the greatest successes include winning the U.S. Open Cup in 1999. During the first years was called the USL franchise Rochester Raging Rhinos.

The Rhinos with the " Rochester Stampede " a club of enthusiastic fans, who are known for their vocal support. Arch rival of the Rhinos was the Canadian Club Montreal Impact until it joined the MLS in 2012.

History

The team was founded in 1996 and played at the time in the A-League. In the very first season reached the Rhinos both the final of the play-offs, as well as the final of the U.S. Open Cup. In the last final of the A-League, the team lost to the Seattle Sounders. In the cup was D.C. United the better team.

In 1997, the A-League merged with the United Soccer Leagues. This resulted in the USL A-League, which was later renamed the USL First Division. Since 2006, the Rhinos play at Sahlen 's Stadium (formerly PAETEC Park ), a soccer -specific stadium. The stadium has 13,768 seats courts. Before the completion of the Sahlen 's Stadium, the team played at Frontier Field.
