Rock mechanics

Rock Mechanics (also rock mechanics ) is that part of geotechnical engineering, which deals with the behavior of rock masses in artificial constructions (buildings and their foundations, tunnels, cavities in the mining industry ).

The rock mechanics is a neighboring discipline of soil mechanics (see also earthworks and foundations ), its practical application is the void and rock.

At universities, the rock mechanics is usually represented by institutions of Geotechnical Engineering, in professional groups within the applied geology or together with the tunneling. Professional cross-links, there are also technical mechanics, strength of materials and to the building technique.
