Rockcastle County, Kentucky

Rockcastle County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Mount Vernon. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in east-central Kentucky, is located in the south about 80 km from the state of Tennessee and has an area of 824 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Garrard County, Madison County, Jackson County, Laurel County, Pulaski County and Lincoln County.

History

Rockcastle County was formed on January 8, 1810 from parts of Knox County, Lincoln County, Madison County and Pulaski County. It was named for the Rockcastle River.
