Rockstuhl is the name of a former municipality in the district of Wartburg in Thuringia.

Geography

The former church that has the name of the 529 meter high basalt cone rock chair, a symbol of the region is given, is located in the south-western tip of Thuringia and the Wartburg circle. It included the districts of Reinhard, Geismar, chains, Spahl, Walkes and apple creek. Here Reinhards forms the westernmost point of Thuringia. He was also the westernmost point of the GDR and the Warsaw Pact ( → Coordinates: 50.6418179.876745 ).

The western, southern and eastern boundary of rock chair is also the border with Hesse, the northern boundary of the district to the community Schleid and before the inclusion to Geisa also to the city Geysa. The pronounced hilly landscape is dominated by agricultural land and wooded heights. Through the area of the road 2603 Geysa leads towards Hesse, where she runs the entrance to Hessian territory than 126 K by means Aschenbach. The most important rivers of the municipality is flowing on the northeastern edge of Ulster, a tributary of the river Werra. History

In the course of municipal reform in Thuringia communities Geismar, chains and Spahl have come together to form community Rockstuhl on 25 March 1994. The community name was here for the 529 meter high basalt cone rock chair, a symbol of the region.

At the request of the inhabitants of the municipality Rockstuhl was incorporated on 31 December 2008 in the neighboring town Geysa. The places Geismar, chains and Spahl form with apple Bach, Reinhard and Walkes a district with a common district constitution.
