Rockford IceHogs

The Rockford IceHogs are home to an ice hockey team from the North American American Hockey League ( AHL), and in Rockford, Illinois. The franchise is located there since the summer of 2007 and played until 2005 under the name Cincinnati Mighty Ducks in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The team acts as a farm team of the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League.

History

The franchise was founded in 1995 as the Baltimore Bandits, but moved after two unsuccessful years at Cincinnati and was renamed the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks. The Mighty Ducks functioned primarily as a farm team of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the Detroit Red Wings, but ran in summer 2005, the cooperation agreements with both teams and it could be made a new agreement with a team in the NHL, so the franchise stopped the business.

In March 2007, the Rockford MetroCentre purchased the dormant franchise and moved it around to Rockford, Illinois. In addition, a cooperation agreement with the Chicago Blackhawks could be taken. The team takes the place of the Rockford IceHogs of the United Hockey League, whose naming rights and team logo, the Rockford Metro Centre has bought, which is why the AHL team also acts as Rockford IceHogs.

Coach

As the first coach of the franchise history took Mike Haviland 2007 as coach and led the Rockford IceHogs of the premiere season. The team qualified for the play-offs and reached for a first-round win over the Houston Aeros, the second playoff round in which the IceHogs in seven games to the later Calder Cup champion Chicago Wolves documents. For the following season Haviland took over the position as assistant coach of the Chicago Blackhawks, replacing Bill Peters was assigned to lead the team. Peters had previously won in the 2007/ 08 season with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League the Ed Chynoweth Cup, the championship of the WHL. In the following two seasons of making the play -offs, in which the team each in the first round was eliminated from the competition succeeded. After Peter had left the Organization of the Black Hawks, whose former assistant Ted Dent was in July 2011, promoted to head coach.
