Rockingham County (North Carolina)

Rockingham County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Wentworth.

Geography

The County is located in the north of North Carolina, bordered by Virginia and has an area of 1482 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Caswell County, Guilford County and Stokes County.

Rockingham Count is divided into eleven townships: Huntsville, Leaksville, Madison, Mayo, New Bethel, Price, Reidsville, Ruffin, Simpsonville, Wentworth and Williamsburg.

History

Rockingham County was formed in 1785 from parts of Guilford County. It was named, as well as the district capital Wentworth, Charles Watson- Wentworth after, 2nd Marquess of Rockingham, a British statesman and Prime Minister.
