Rocky Mount is a city in the U.S. state of North Carolina in the USA. The city is located on the border of two counties. Parts of the city are therefore part of Nash County, Edgecombe County for parts.

The community was officially founded on 19 February 1867. The municipality, however, was already inhabited in the early 19th century; the first post office opened in 1816.

In 1996, the city was incorporated into Battleboro, Rocky Mount.

2000, the city had 55,893 inhabitants. The urban area covers 92.7 km ².
