Rod Gilbert

Rodrigue Gabriel " Rod" Gilbert ( born July 1, 1941 in Montreal, Quebec ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player ( Right Wing ), who played from 1961 to 1978 for the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League.

Career

As a junior, Gilbert played in the Guelph Biltmores in the OHA. After a short but successful use in the Trois- Rivières Lions in the Eastern Professional Hockey League ( EPHL ) with 10 points in three games, he returned to Guelph, where the team had been renamed the Royals. Here he was with 54 gates best scorer with 103 points ahead of his teammate Jean Ratelle scorer of the OHA. In this 1960/61 season he was also once for the New York Rangers in the NHL on the ice.

The 1961/62 season he played with a back injury back just a game for the Rangers and the rest of the season in the EPHL at the Kitchener -Waterloo Beavers. Came to the playoffs, he was called to the Rangers again due to some injuries and here he was with five points in four games very successfully. In the season 1962/63 him the real breakthrough came in the NHL. In the 1967/68 season, he raised his game with 77 points scorer for the first time to a new level. From 1970 he played with Jean Ratelle and Vic Hadfield in the GAG ( Goal -A- Game) Line. This year, this series helped the Rangers to get to 107 points. 1971/72 he played personally with 97 points scorer his most successful season. He also played with the Canadian team at the Summit Series in 1972.

Despite numerous offers, especially from the competition of the League World Hockey Association, he remained throughout his career the Rangers faithful. As an eleventh player in the NHL history, he reached the 1,000 -point mark just before his friend and longtime teammate Jean Ratelle. After the season 1977/78 he finished his career.

He took over in 1980 for a year, the New Haven Nighthawks of the American Hockey League as a coach.

In 1982 he was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
