Art Project

The Land Art artist James Turrell sought in 1974 with the aircraft a suitable project for a mountain. He found him in the Roden Crater and with great difficulty he won in the 70 donors for a purchase. He installed here since 1974, a powerful perception of art object, which runs through the volcano. In the volcano belly Turrell has milled in a network of corridors and rooms, calculated by astronomical, the sky aligned apertures penetrating the light of individual celestial bodies into the interior of the crater, where it is absorbed and reflected by objects, and so forms emerge only light in the room. His " Skyspaces " react mainly on different qualities of light, but also to sounds, his goal is a synaesthetic realization architecture that helps people when viewing their own perception. The Roden Crater is not yet available to the public ( as of 2012).
