Geography

Geographical location

The district is located on the west bank of the Rhine in the so-called Rheinbogen. It is the southernmost of the left bank of the Rhine in Cologne city districts.

Neighboring districts and municipalities

Roden churches bordered to the north by the 1st district of downtown, on the east by the Rhine separated at the 7th arrondissement Porz, in the south on the town Wesseling, on the southwest by the town of Brühl and to the west by the town of Hürth.

History

The municipality was established on 1 January 1975 after the annexation of the formerly independent village Roden churches and the city Wesseling in the city of Cologne. In this part of the park also one of the oldest golf clubs in Germany maintains ( founded in 1906 ) its 9 -hole course, a successor design from 1955 by Bernhard von Limburger in place of devastated in World War II original 18 -hole course of 1909.
