Rodgers and Hammerstein

Rodgers and Hammerstein is a name for the " songwriting team ", consisting of the composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II

In the early 1940s Richard Rodgers tried in vain, his first partner Lorenz Hart for the work on the subsequent musical Oklahoma! to care. He sought and found for this project Oscar Hammerstein, he already knew how hard their student days. After Hart had died in 1943, Rodgers was one of his second artistic and business partnership with Hammerstein.

During their collaboration, they created a lot of very successful, style-defining for their time musicals. Their partnership extended over a period of almost twenty years, until the death of Hammerstein's 1960.
