Rodna

Rodna ( Altrodenau German, Hungarian Óradna ) is a municipality in the district of Bistrita-Nasaud in Romania.

Location

Rodna is located in northern Transylvania in Rodnaer Mountains on the river Big Somes. About 30 km to the east is the 1271 m high Rotunda Pass, which separates the Rodna from Suhard Mountains.

History

On March 31, 1241, founded by the Saxons inhabited city of Mongols was plundered and destroyed during their invasion of the Kingdom of Hungary, deported the population. After that, the place was rebuilt and inhabited mainly by Hungarians, Romanians and Jews.

Population

The population in the municipality referred to in the vast majority as Romanians. In the 2002 census, known from the then 6313 inhabitants 5628 to Romanian, 582 Hungarian, 8 for German, 1 for Ukrainian, Serbian 1 for, 2 for Slovak, Polish and 2 to 1 for Armenian nationality. 88 described themselves as Gypsies.

Traffic

By Rodna National Road DN 17D runs. At the western entrance to the village is the railway station. There the railway Beclean pe Somes Rodna Veche - ends.
