Rodney Dangerfield

Rodney Dangerfield ( born November 22, 1921 in Babylon, Long Iceland, New York, † October 5, 2004 in Los Angeles, California; civil Jacob Cohen ) was an American comedian and actor.

Life

Jacob Cohen grew up in the Jewish milieu of New York, which was reflected in his later wit and self-deprecation.

At the age of twenty years Jacob Cohen performed under the stage name Jack Roy for the first time as a comedian in night clubs. He gave lack of success this career first and worked through the 1950s as a seller. It was not until after the divorce from his first wife in 1961, he joined again regularly in clubs, this time as Rodney Dangerfield. His portrayal of bad-tempered average citizen developed in this period his trademark and earned him appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, with Johnny Carson and from 1972 in the Dean Martin Show a. Dangerfield fell after complications following heart surgery on 25 August 2004 into a coma and died on 5 October 2004 at the UCLA Medical Center. He was interred in the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles.
