Rodney Whitaker

Rodney Thomas Whitaker ( born February 22, 1968 in Detroit ) is an American jazz bassist and high school teachers.

Life

Rodney Whitaker initially learned violin and moved at the age of 13 years to double bass. He first played with Donald Washington and studied at Wayne State University, also with Robert Gladstone, bass player with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and trumpeter Marcus Belgrave. He worked in the 1990s, among other things, with Terence Blanchard, Orrin Evans, Kenny Garrett ( pursuance, 1996), Wycliffe Gordon, Antonio Hart, Roy Hargrove ( With the Tenors of Our Time, 1994), Joe Lovano, Kevin Mahogany, Eric Reed, Joe Temperley, Mark Whitfield and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra.
